 Acme Fresh Market and Akron Manufacturer Partner to Make Masks for All Associates 

Acme Fresh Market has partnered with downtown Akron manufacturer American Made Bags LLC to provide locally made fabric masks for all Acme Fresh Market associates.

“I think that’s what local really means – Acme’s ability to work with and support local businesses to fulfill need – whether it’s partnering with a local farmer or, in these unusual times, working with a local manufacturer,” said Katie Swartz, Vice President of Marketing for Acme Fresh Market.

Acme Fresh Market knew they would need to get creative to make fabric masks available for all associates, and they began working on the project in late March ago by purchasing bandanas.  When the time came to convert the bandanas into fabric masks, Acme Fresh Market found a fellow member of the United Food & Commercial Workers, American Made Bags LLC.

“We were thrilled at the opportunity to take in a very large order during these uncertain times.  The opportunity was even sweeter because we are able to help a fellow UFCW member.  Acme has always been a great partner to our community.  We are proud to help this local company,” said company representative Edith Davis.   

Each employee initially has been given two fabric masks, Swartz said. The grocer has 5,000 masks and American Made is continuing to make masks until further notice.  All Acme Fresh Market associates are required to wear masks. 

Acme customers will not be required, but encouraged to wear masks when shopping, Swartz said.

“Our associates are wearing masks to help protect our customers. We encourage our customers to wear masks to help protect our associates,” she said.

“We commend Acme for protecting our members and the quick response of our sister Local 211C based right here in Akron, Ohio,” said Barb Caruso, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 880.

All Acme Fresh Market associates have been provided with these locally made fabric masks and all associates will wear masks beginning Wednesday April 29, 2020.
